There’s a new relationship in the works in the world of K-Pop, and it’s going to be (literally) bigger than any love—or love and hate—relationship that has been revealed of late. This is the new relationship being forged between two of the three largest entertainment companies in Korea, YG Entertainment and JYP Entertainment.
In the January 31 broadcast of KBS2’s Dream High 2, Park Jin Young himself performed a comical yet somehow mesmerizing rendition of 2NE1’s hit single I Am the Best.
That the head of JYPE performed to the music of 2NE1, one of the representative groups of YG, was enough to make the performance even more entertaining – especially considering the fact that Park normally spends nearly all his time promoting his own agency′s artists/songs.
Park showed off that he indeed thought he was the best with his bold performance of I Am the Best, and also put together a performance with YG singer Psy’s Entertainer.
Although he didn’t appear in that performance himself, if you consider the fact that Park is the dance and music director for Dream High 2, the scene comes to be even more ironic. The irony comes as JYPE and YG do seem to be friendly toward each other, but they are actually big rivals in the scene.
The irony peaked with the news of Se7en’s comeback. The song in the teaser that Park revealed through the JYPE official webpage turned out to be for YG singer Se7en.
Soon, Se7en released a mini album with Park Jin Young’s When I Can’t Sing as its main promotional single cut, and became the first YG singer to perform to a Park Jin Young-created song.
It seems we can certainly look forward to many more combinations and collaborations to come, as the heads of JYPE and YG, Park Jin Young and Yang Hyun Suk, are currently appearing together as judges with SM Entertainment representative BoA on SBS’ survival audition program K-Pop Star.
